UFC 199 Link Round Up
It’s weigh-in day for UFC 199 in Los Angeles, and thanks to two title fights between bitter rivals, there’s plenty of press coverage for the event.
Here in Silicon Valley, we’re eager to see our local UFC Middleweight Champion keep that belt when he faces off against veteran hustler Michael Bisping. We’re also very excited for the grudge match between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber. There are a lot of reasons to watch the fight card this weekend, and so we’ve organized all analysis related to UFC 199 here in one place. Take a look, follow along on Twitter come fight night, and enjoy the fights!
First, over at ESPN, we took a closer look at the top three fights and the betting implications, then we threw in one bonus pick. And if you want even more betting analysis, check out the MMA Oddsbreaker Premium Oddscast here, where they cover each and every matchup on the card.
We started by noting that current champions Luke Rockhold and Dominick Cruz both take very little damage in their fights, an excellent trait if you’re going to continually face the best in your division. But interestingly, Rockhold is much better at delivering damage than Cruz.
That’s because Luke Rockhold maintains an aggressive striking pace that can force his opponents into a shootout, or else get sucked into a grappling match with the experienced submission artist. This graph over at Washington Post Fancy Stats also shows the power differential between Rockhold and Bisping. But by that same comparison, challenger Urijah Faber is the bigger knockout threat compared to incumbent champion Dominick Cruz.
Then we went over to Draft Kings to look at who packs the biggest punch, and who might be susceptible to a knockout. Picking early finishers is a huge win for fantasy MMA players, so identifing knockout potential can make or break your team.
